IU Indianapolis is excited to launch this year’s United Way Campaign, a cherished tradition that embodies our commitment to making a meaningful difference in our community. By partnering with United Way of Central Indiana, we aim to enhance access to essential resources and services for those in need. Our goal for 2024 is to surpass $200,000, and with your generous support, we can achieve this ambitious target and continue our legacy of positive change. This campaign represents not only a chance to contribute financially but also an opportunity to engage in the impactful work of United Way-supported agencies.

Why United Way?

In the early 20th century, United Way was founded on the premise that we all have a stake in the health and well-being of our neighbors and our communities. If we work together and take action, we can stop poverty’s devastating effect on people, in neighborhoods and throughout our society.

From our evolution as a “Community Chest” where neighbors pooled resources together to solve tough problems, to our role today as a social impact organization, United Way is committed to eliminating poverty by focusing on four areas that predict financial success for individuals and families:

  • Basic essentials for neighbors who need it the most.
  • Early care, literacy and school success for young children.
  • Paths to better employment and higher earnings for adults.
  • Safe and affordable housing for families and youth facing homelessness.

How does United Way make impact happen?

Every donation to United Way helps to support community organizations working tirelessly to confront generational poverty. You may know us best for the tens of millions of dollars we award through grants to our community partners each year, but our work and true value to the community’s non-profit sector is so much more.

Behind the scenes, your gift to United Way is hard at work ensuring we have a strong and well-resourced human services sector prepared to tackle our community’s toughest challenges.

We are advocates.  We take action. We build, lead and support coalitions and promote public policy change to better the lives of Hoosiers.

We are volunteers.  We mobilize people to serve their neighbors across seven Central Indiana counties.

We are thought leaders. We elevate diverse voices. We share ideas. We bring together funders and collaborate with community organizations to stop generational poverty.

We are community partners. We use data to understand community needs. We invest in more than 80 nonprofits across Central Indiana and equip them with resources to boost impact.

We are United Way of Central Indiana. With our donors, advocates, volunteers, thought leaders and partners, we work to ensure our neighbors can live the lives they're capable of living.

In essence, we do what we promise: rally our community to help us reduce the number of people living in poverty and prevent our neighbors from experiencing it in the first place.
